COGENERATION FOR THE ENERGY EFFICIENCY OF THE ADHESIVES INDUSTRY: the case of Vinavil, Mapei Group

Electricity, steam and hot water for production processes requiring constant availability of high amounts of eco-friendly energy.

Born in 1994, following takeover of EniChem Synthesis the MAPEI Group’s, today Vinavil is the most important Italian company in dispersion polymers and, in particular, the adhesive production field.

REQUIREMENT

The Villadossola Vinavil plant’s cogeneration system had to balance the demands of modern technology and the limits/restrictions of the site layout, which originated in the 1930s. It was also important to consider the existing plants, which include a dual hot water make-up system.

SOLUTION

AB conducted a detailed analysis of the plant’s energy needs; the study indicated that the ECOMAX® 14 NGS cogeneration system was best suited for installation, given the opportunities and advantages it offers. The system has allowed the plant to reach excellent results in terms of electrical and thermal energy production, which are used on the site as 80°C water and 5-bar steam. The system will be in use for approximately 8,000 hours/year.
